The problem I have is people sometimes create a conversation and it should be a task and I would like to be able to create a task from that conversation or at least assign the conversation to a task.

Our Spark feature may get you part of the way towards what you are looking for. You can use this to create a task from a comment in that conversation. It will default to the people that are part of the conversation although you can change that. The original conversation will contain a link to the task that was sparked from that conversation.
