As a space member, you have the ability to add a poll to a conversation. The poll can either be a survey poll or sign-up poll.
Survey polls: You can add an unlimited number of questions with an unlimited number of answers. The questions and answers can include multiple selections where the respondent chooses more than one answer, one choice questions, or a combination of both. You and the respondents can converse about the poll side-by-side with the questions and answers. No matter your choice of confidentiality, participants can never tell who voted for what.
Confidential survey polls: You can decide whether the poll is confidential or not. Setting the poll to confidential means that participants will not see the results and the poll creator will not see who voted for what. It makes the poll truly anonymous. Not seeing the results can be especially useful for quizzes or other scenarios where you don’t want participants to be influenced by each other.
Sign-up polls: You can add an unlimited number of sign-ups and allow for multiple selections. Multiple users cannot select the same item; once an item is selected, it is no longer available for selection. Sign-up polls cannot be made confidential. Once all sign-up options are taken, users who have not signed up for anything will not be presented with the sign-up option. The creator will have an aggregated view of the selections made by the group. The creator and the respondents can converse about the poll side-by-side with the questions and answers.
To add a poll, create a new conversation via the 'Add a conversation' field on top of the Conversations tab of the Home page or from within a space. You will see an icon for polls (three horizontal lines) below the 'Get the conversation started' box. Click this icon to create the poll, and then select either Survey or Sign-up.
Note: You would fill out the rest of the new conversation as usual. Anyone entered in the People field will have the ability to answer and view the poll. By default, all people included will have edit rights. For information on modifying the editors, see below.
To set up your survey poll, type your question into the “Enter Question 1” field. If you wish to allow people to select more than one answer, check the “Allow multiple responses” box to the right of this field. If you wish to hide the poll results from participants, unclick the “Make poll anonymous” box. Then fill in the selections in the “Answer 1”, “Answer 2”, etc. fields. New answer fields will automatically become available as you fill in the answers. When you finish adding Question 1, click the “Add question” link under the answer fields to start adding Question 2. Repeat this process as necessary until all your poll questions and answers have been entered.
To set up your sign-up poll, type your first sign-up item question into the “Enter Title 1” field. If you wish to allow people to select more than one item, check the “Allow multiple selections” box to the right of this field. Then fill in the selections in the “Enter task, slot or item 1,” “Enter task, slot, or item 2,” etc. fields. New task fields will automatically become available as you fill in the answers. When you finish adding Title 1, click the “Add sign-up” link under the answer fields to start adding Title 2. Repeat this process as necessary until all your poll sign-up options have been entered.
When you’ve finished entering the conversation and poll details, click the “Add+” button to add the poll conversation to the space. Your conversation participants can now start responding to the poll. They will either see a “Take the poll” or “Sign-up” tag on this conversation in the Conversation tab to indicate that it is a poll.
To answer the survey poll, the respondent will click the “Votes needed” conversation to open the conversation details screen where they can provide their answers and comment on the poll. The respondent would click the appropriate answers on the left side of the pop-up window and then click “Save” in the bottom right of the window.
To view survey poll results, click on the poll conversation to open the details window. Scroll to the top of the poll on the left side of the window. Click the “Show results” link. You can also toggle back to the “Show my votes” view to see what you selected. To see results by vote, hover over the answer in the results view to see who selected that answer. To see results by person, go to the people icon and then hover over the checkmark next to the name of anyone who has completed the poll.
To make selections on the sign-up poll: Click into the empty field next to each selection that you’d like to sign up for. When you are done, click Submit. You will then see a list of the sign-up results, and the option to change your sign-up if you’d like. Once all sign-up options are taken, users that have not signed up for anything will not be presented with the sign-up option.
To view the selections on the sign-up poll: After you have submitted your selections, you can view the sign-up results. You may view results at any time by opening up the conversation poll and clicking on the poll icon on the left side. This view also presents you with the option to change your sign-up; if you click this option, you can go back to results by clicking “show results” at the top.
