How to designate a new owner for a space?

To designate a new owner for the space, you must leave the space you own. As part of the leaving process, you will be able to select the new owner.  

To leave a space, click the Spaces header in the left sidebar and hover over the space name until you see an arrow next to it.  Select "Edit space" to access the Edit Space window.  Then click "Leave space" at the bottom of the window.

A confirmation popup window will appear.  Choose the new owner for this space and then select “Leave”.  You will leave the space and all items assigned to you will be reassigned as described in this knowledge base article: http://support.kona.com/entries/21859602-what-happens-to-tasks-i-m-on-when-i-leave-a-space.

Note: If you wish to change ownership of the space but remain in the space, have the new owner invite you back into the space.  After re-joining the space, you will be a regular team member.

    Is there a way two people can have owner rights at the same time?  I want to delegate someone to be able to invite others while I post content.

    Hi Dan,

    At this time, there is only one owner per space.  There is a popular feature request to have additional owners here: http://support.kona.com/entries/20868996-add-ability-to-recommend-a-team-member.  I'd recommend clicking the Thumbs Up button to like it and move it up in popularity.

    I wanted to add that while only the owner can invite people to the space, all the members of the space can create content and assign it to other team members, etc.

    Hi, is there a way to merge two spaces that are of similar nature? I inherited a space from a colleague who is no longer with the company, and it essentially has the same function as another space I'm a member of. I had spoken to the owner of the second space and she has agreed to take on the other space if they were merged. Thanks.

    A space owner left the company and designated me as space owner.  Now she is listed as a guest on the space there is now X by her name to remove her.  What can I do to remove her from the site?

    Hi Mike,

    To remove her from the space, click “Manage” under the Space Members section on the right sidebar.  When the People page appears, hover over the team member you want to remove from the space.  Click the X button to remove them.  Click Yes to confirm the removal.  There is a screenshot and some additional details here if you need it:  http://support.kona.com/entries/21853231-How-do-I-remove-a-team-member-from-the-space-.

    Hi Christine - thanks for getting back to me.  When I hover over the user, there is no X to click on.  She designated me as owner, but she is also listed as owner as well.  I think this is why there is no X in order to remove her.  Is there some way for me to revoke her ownership?

    Hi Mike,

    Inside the Space page, click the pencil icon to the right of the space name.  This will bring you to the Edit Space screen where you will see a field listing the space owners.  You can click the X next to her name to remove her as a space owner.

    Hi Christine.  Still  a no go.  The she is listed as an owner if the manage people space but not in the edit space screen.  Also she is a guest user.

    Hi Mike,

    We found a defect with her account specifically and development removed her manually.  We've opened up a defect ticket to correct it.  Can you try refreshing Kona and see if she is out of the space now?

    I now see more than one owner on a space I go to.  How do I add an owner to a space?

    Hi Melissa,

    Spaces that are part of a Kona Business account can have a co-owner.  The Edit Space screen is where you can move a space to an account you belong to and add a co-owner to the space.  To access this screen, open up your space and then click the pencil icon next to the space name at the top.  You can use the Account drop-down field to move the space into the account.  After you click "Save," and it's in the account, you will see an Owners field where you can click in and select another space member or multiple people to be co-owners.  Please note that guests of an account cannot co-own a space so you will be able to select people that are also members of your account.
